What are the benefits that manual activities bring us?
Artistic activities, or handmade, as it is currently known, are all those playful and creative activities that we carry out with our hands, they are a source of well-being and relaxation. I am sure that this is already information that all of us who have ever tried to enter that world know.
But in addition to all those effects that we know it provides us internally such as: happiness, well-being, peace; crafts bring us many more benefits and not all of them are known. Here I will try to express in my humble opinion a little of what I have learned about the benefits of crafts.
No 1.- It helps you relax and get rid of stress. Numerous scientific studies show that being focused on the task we are doing with our hands, be it cooking, gardening, carpentry, weaving, drawing, blacksmithing, allows us to enter a state of relaxation and well-being. Time goes by very quickly while we are immersed in what we are creating with our hands, in my particular case I even forget to eat. Some scientists classify it as a state of flow, directly related to meditation.
No 2.- It gives us satisfaction: when we create something with our hands, an object to which we have invested time, effort and dedication, we feel satisfaction and pride. It is a demonstration that we can translate into an object what we see in our mind.
No 3.- Improves our mental agility: It encourages creative thinking and therefore will help us solve problems and make better decisions in all areas of our lives. It stimulates the creation of new brain connections, which is scientifically proven to make us smarter.
No 4.- The manual creation process is an excellent way to express yourself. When we are immersed in this creative process, when we choose colors, shapes, textures, sizes, etc., we are expressing our tastes, and our emotions.
No 5.- From my point of view, what has been created with your own hands will be the best gift you can give to someone. Not only because it is made with your hands, but also because you have dedicated time and effort to it, from the creation of the brochure to the creation of the object itself... Also, it should be noted that generally everything created with your hands has that unique touch, not only because of the original design, but also because not two pieces are alike, even while improving ones skills, those are the most beautiful details of a handmade item.
To summarize, I could say that doing manual work is an excellent way to exercise our brain. I invite you that if you have that interest for crafts (knitting, painting, carpentry, gardening, etc) do it, start today, with a small project and you will see how little by little new ideas will emerge and the degree of satisfaction is enormous. . And if Handcrafting is not your thing, I invite you to support all those artisans who create beautiful and unique pieces for the enjoyment of others. Thank you very much for reading until the end.
