February is here; Prepare your seedbeds for spring.

Finally the month of February arrived and with it came the time to get down to work with the spring work. Yes, yes, spring, because, even though we are in the middle of winter, it is time to prepare our seedbeds for the spring-summer season. February and March are the perfect months to place all our nightshade seeds. That is, the queens of the garden such as aubergines, tomatoes or peppers. And also our cucurbits: cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin. Of course, we must carry out this task always keeping in mind that our seedbed has enough heat and humidity so that they can germinate reliably.

If this is your first time creating your kitchen garden in your patio, you should consider what space you have to create it, if you are going to do any design, if you are going to sow directly into the ground or if you are going to look for, buy or make planting beds... You should ask all these questions in order to create a good planting schedule, and make the most of the fruits at harvest time.

Now, you already have the space ready for your kitchen garden, and you want to make the most of spring and summer with your plants, then this information will interest you.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you want to change your life can make all the difference

How do we prepare our seedbeds? The first thing is to use the appropriate elements, starting with seedbeds that adapt to the size of our seed and to the plant that, after germination, should house about two months before being transplanted into our garden.

There are many materials or implements that we can use to develop our seedbeds, we do not necessarily have to spend large amounts of money. In addition, if we buy some implements such as germination trays, these can be used several times. Now yes, we go with the information of this post.

As a support for the seed and its subsequent seedling, we will use coconut fiber, capable of retaining moisture and allowing good aeration, as well as earthworm humus, to provide nutrients and a little sand to achieve greater germination success. Once we have the mixture made, we will make a little pressure on the earth with our finger or with another tray (if you use germination trays) and we will put the seed. I recommend that in the case of lettuce, you place two seeds so that we make sure that at least one seed germinates. With larger seeds, only one seed per hole would suffice.

The next step is to water with a very light rain, since a large stream of water could cause the seeds to sink too far or jump out of the socket. Finally, I recommend that you indicate with some handmade wooden ice cream sticks which variety we have planted and its planting date, in order to know which seed we have planted and obviously make sure that it worked and that it did not... Let's remember that we are dealing with living beings, and sometimes these seeds do not germinate, and we must be clear about what each one is.
